26 Ntungamo District Staff Face Probe Over Alleged UGX 5.9 Billion Irregularities

NTUNGAMO UGANDA: Twenty-six staff members of Ntungamo District Local Government are set to be investigated over alleged financial irregularities involving billions of shillings in road funds, questionable staff allowances, alleged salary diversion outside the Integrated Personnel and Payroll System (IPPS), and other transactions reportedly linked to UGX 5.9 billion in public funds.

Concerns have also been raised over more than UGX 500 million reportedly spent on water projects, amid allegations that no water has been delivered on the ground. The concerns came to light during the Minister of Local Government’s anti-corruption drive on Wednesday.

Speaking on Thursday, Minister of State for Local Government Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi said “enough is enough” as calls for accountability and transparency in the management of public resources intensify.

Barugahara called for a thorough and independent investigation, a full public account of every shilling spent, the recovery of any misappropriated funds, and prosecution wherever the evidence warrants it.

The staff members implicated in the allegations are expected to answer to the law, with due process respected throughout the investigations.

Taxpayers expect better roads, access to clean water, and improved public services rather than unanswered questions about how public funds are spent.
