Police in Kampala have arrested seven suspects in connection with the alleged theft and vandalism of motor vehicle parts in Nateete, following public complaints about a rise in such incidents.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said the operation followed the circulation of a video on social media in which a motorist complained about the alleged vandalism of Toyota Harrier vehicles in the area.
Kawala said police conducted an intelligence-led operation on September 15, 2026, which resulted in the arrest of Jjuko Muhammad, who was suspected of involvement in the theft of motor vehicle parts.
“Following public outcry over cases of theft from motor vehicles in the Nateete area, particularly after a video circulated on social media, police conducted an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of Jjuko Muhammad,” Kawala said.
She said that during interrogation, Jjuko led investigators to six other suspects, who were arrested on September 17.
“During interrogation, Jjuko Muhammad led police to the arrest of six additional suspects, and several motor vehicle parts were recovered from Kisekka Market,” Kawala said.
Police said investigations are continuing to establish the suspects’ alleged involvement in motor vehicle parts theft and to identify other individuals who may be connected to the suspected racket.
The suspects remain under investigation as police work to establish the circumstances surrounding the recovered vehicle parts and determine whether they are linked to reported cases of vandalism in Nateete.
