KISORO UGANDA: Retired General Kale Kayihura has donated a new Honda motorcycle to Bufumbira Twifatanye Cooperative Union Limited to facilitate its operations.
The motorcycle was delivered by Major Sibo Edward on behalf of General Kale Kayihura on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, during the official opening of the cooperative’s office at Kisoro Pioneer Mall in Kisoro Municipality.
In addition to the motorcycle, General Kayihura pledged to pay the salaries of the new Bufumbira Twifatanye Cooperative staff for three months and to cover their accommodation costs.
Major Sibo Edward, for his part, pledged to provide the cooperative manager, Ninsiima Asaph, with fuel for the motorcycle for three months.
Major Sibo Edward applauded Kayihura for initiating Bufumbira Twifatanye Cooperative Union Limited to economically empower its members. He urged the cooperative’s leaders to remain trustworthy and to safeguard members’ funds.
He also thanked the Microfinance Centre for providing the cooperative with office furniture and computers worth UGX 10 million.
He noted that General Kale Kayihura has bigger plans for the cooperative, including lobbying for improved Irish potato seeds, and observed that most successful cooperatives place strong emphasis on agriculture.
Mr. William Atalyeba, Director of Operations at Wazalendo SACCO, who officiated at the function, thanked Gen. Kale Kayihura and described him as a highly resourceful person. He revealed that General Kale Kayihura initiated the establishment of Wazalendo SACCO, which now has total assets approaching UGX 1.8 trillion.
Mr. Atalyeba emphasised accountability, integrity and professionalism. He advised the cooperative to keep its mission critical and to follow Gen. Kayihura’s guidance if Bufumbira Twifatanye Cooperative is to succeed in the same way as Wazalendo SACCO.
He promised that Wazalendo SACCO will remain available to offer technical advice whenever Bufumbira Twifatanye Cooperative calls upon them.
Birungi Front, the Kisoro Municipality Principal Development Officer, applauded General Kayihura for his vision of developing Kisoro through cooperatives. He noted that many countries, including China, developed at a phenomenal pace because of cooperatives.
The manager of Bufumbira Twifatanye Cooperative thanked the chairperson, General Kayihura, for providing the motorcycle, describing it as a highly practical tool for rural mobilisation, visiting remote members and conducting training.
Bufumbira Twifatanye Savings and Credit Cooperative Union Limited was officially launched on 24 November 2025 by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni following a public address at Shaza Grounds in Kisoro Town. It was formed to organise local communities to combat poverty by providing access to savings and credit facilities.
Kisoro Deputy RDC Dan Ndikumwami encouraged residents to develop a culture of saving, join SACCOs and embrace government programmes aimed at eradicating poverty.
He thanked Bufumbira Twifatanye Savings and Credit Cooperative Union Limited chairperson General Kale Kayihura for being a person who builds friendships with the intention of supporting his homeland.
