KISORO UGANDA: Kisoro District has vaccinated 71,133 children aged between nine months and five years against measles and rubella, achieving 99.72 per cent of its target population during the recently concluded vaccination campaign.
Kisoro District Health Officer, Dr. Bosco Muhangi, disclosed the figures while speaking to the media at his office on Monday.
Dr. Muhangi said the campaign was initially scheduled to run from October 1 to 5, 2026, but was extended to October 8 to allow health workers more time to reach all targeted communities.
He attributed the extension to Kisoro’s hilly terrain, which made it difficult for vaccination teams to access some communities within the initial five-day period.
He explained that the additional days enabled health workers to reach more children, particularly those living in hard-to-reach areas, and ensure that as many eligible children as possible received the vaccines.
Dr. Muhangi commended health workers, security personnel, Village Health Teams (VHTs), Community Health Extension Workers and local leaders for their contribution to the successful implementation of the campaign.
He noted that their coordinated efforts helped vaccination teams reach children in remote communities while ensuring that vaccines were safely transported, properly handled and administered.
