Former Kisoro District LCV Chairperson and Lifetime Honorary Wildlife Officer of Uganda, Abel Bizimana, has called on tourism operators and communities in Kisoro District to organise protests against what he describes as government neglect amid the deteriorating road network.
Bizimana says the poor state of roads in the district is disrupting tourism activities and threatening access to key tourism destinations.
His call on Monday follows growing concern among tourism operators and communities in Bukimbiri County over the deterioration of the Karengyere–Nyanamo–Rubuguri–Rushaga–Nkuringo road, which had been serving as an alternative route following the collapse of the Kisoro–Bukimbiri road at River Mucha Bridge.
Bizimana says the tourism community cannot rely on individual efforts alone to address the situation, urging tourism associations, unions and other organised groups to unite and demand government intervention.
He has also encouraged tourism stakeholders to organise press conferences and peaceful demonstrations to draw attention to the road crisis, accusing the government of remaining silent over their concerns.
CUE IN BIZIMANA ON DEMONSTRATIONS
Bizimana further revealed that he had interacted with Bukimbiri County Member of Parliament Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu, who reportedly contacted the Minister of State for Works, Fred Byamukama, to seek urgent intervention.
He has called on other legislators in Kisoro District to join Kwizera in pushing for a solution, saying a coordinated effort is necessary to address the challenges facing the tourism sector.
CUE IN BIZIMANA ON GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION
Meanwhile, Kisoro District Youth Councillor Juliet Kamusiime has expressed concern over the deteriorating road network, particularly the Nyanamo–Rubuguri road.
Kamusiime says the road has been riddled with potholes for more than three years, accusing the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) of failing to address the problem.
She has called on the government and relevant authorities to urgently intervene and prioritise roads serving tourism communities and destinations in the district.
CUE IN KAMUSIIME ON THE STATE OF THE ROADS

Thanx for the concern Mr Abel.
If that road(Karengeri Nyanamo Rubuguri) is not worked on,we shouldn’t join Electoral process in the coming 2031 elections.
