KISORO, UGANDA — Girls for Girls organisation has concluded a three-day training programme aimed at empowering schoolgirls with leadership, communication and career development skills to help them make informed decisions during and after school.
The training brought together a team of women from different parts of the country who visited several schools in Kisoro District on Saturday to equip learners with practical life skills, encourage self-confidence and prepare them for future leadership opportunities.
The schools that benefited from the programme include Seseme Girls Secondary School, Kisoro Vision Secondary School, St Gertrude, St George Primary School and Gasovu Primary School.
During the sessions, the facilitators guided learners on leadership, effective communication, career guidance, building trust and other life skills intended to help them remain focused on their education and prepare for life beyond school.
The programme also sought to encourage girls to recognise their potential, develop positive attitudes and make responsible decisions as they navigate the different challenges associated with growing up and pursuing their academic goals.
Mbabazi Allen and Fortunate Ingabire, leaders in the organisation, said they brought the programme to Kisoro because of its potential to help girls develop into responsible individuals who can distinguish between right and wrong.
They noted that equipping girls with appropriate knowledge and life skills is important in helping them make sound decisions about their education, relationships, leadership and future careers.

Meanwhile, Kabagaya Estella, one of the facilitators, said many girls fear taking up leadership positions because they lack confidence in themselves and their abilities.
Estella explained that building confidence among girls is essential in encouraging them to participate in leadership activities, express their views and take up responsibilities both at school and in their communities.
She urged girls to believe in their abilities and take advantage of opportunities that can help them develop their leadership potential.
