KISORO, UGANDA: The National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership in Kisoro District has started mobilising supporters ahead of the expected return of party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, to Uganda.
The mobilisation follows earlier announcements by the NUP leadership that arrangements are underway for Kyagulanyi’s return after his international engagements in the United States.
Kyagulanyi left Uganda in March 2026 after spending nearly two months in hiding following the January 15 presidential election. He said at the time that he was travelling abroad for international engagements and would return to Uganda after completing his work.
However, as of October 5, 2026, NUP has not publicly announced a confirmed date, time or flight for his return.
Speaking to our reporter, NUP Kisoro District Chairperson Tugume Albert said preparations are already underway in Kisoro to receive the party president once the official return date is announced.
Tugume said the public would be informed about the exact date, time and flight details once the party leadership finalises the arrangements. He said supporters from Kisoro would travel to Entebbe International Airport to welcome Kyagulanyi before accompanying him to his next destination, which he said could be Magere or another location depending on the arrangements.
Tugume added that mobilisation has already started on the ground and that hundreds of NUP supporters from Kisoro are expected to participate in the welcome.
NUP officials have previously said that once Kyagulanyi’s return arrangements are finalised, the party will communicate the details to the public.
Meanwhile, Tugume has dismissed claims circulating on social media that Kyagulanyi will not appear on the ballot paper in Uganda’s next general elections in 2031.
Tugume maintained that Kyagulanyi remains the president of the National Unity Platform and said he is eligible to contest for an elective position provided he meets the legal requirements at the time of the election.
He argued that no individual should prevent a Ugandan from contesting for an elective position if that person meets the constitutional and legal requirements.
Tugume said the remaining step is for the NUP leadership to announce the date of Kyagulanyi’s return, after which supporters and the wider public will be informed.

We shall welcome him back to his motherland country.
I really appreciate your updates.
